Salvador Option: Death Squads in Iraq
Tue Jun 28, 2005 at 05:32:29 AM PDT
In January,
Newsweek reported that the Pentagon was considering the Salvador Option for Iraq--US-trained Death Squads—in an article titled
‘The Salvador Option’ The Pentagon may put Special-Forces-led assassination or kidnapping teams in Iraq. Today,
Knight-Ridder reports that the Death Squads seem to have arrived in an article titled
Campaign of executions feared in Iraq. Slain Sunnis have arrived at Baghdad's morgue blindfolded, bound and shot. The author of today's K-R article himself was shot and killed under mysterious circumstances last week in Baghdad.
Yushchenko tests showed no poison: Medical Director Rudolfinerhaus
Sat Apr 02, 2005 at 01:10:29 PM PDT
Lothar Wicke, the clinical director of the Rudolfinerhaus clinic when Yushchenko was first tested, has broken his silence on the bizarre dioxin poisoning case as reported by
The Telegraph of London.
Dr Wicke said: "I was directly involved, and I can tell you that the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Vienna did not find any traces of poisonous agents in his blood. If there is no poison, there cannot be poisoning and there was no trace of it whatsoever."
Later, with Wicke out of the way, it was claimed that Yushchenko had the second highest dioxin level ever reported.
Frank Perdue, My Union and Me
Fri Apr 01, 2005 at 11:46:55 AM PDT
With Frank Purdue's death,
PaulVA recounts his personal experience as a union organizer at a Perdue plant in Alabama.
His diary is here.
He concludes:
So when you see a tribute to Frank Perdue, remember this story. I'm sure nobody else will.
This is a powerful case study of union organizing in the South and should not be missed.

Novel Methods to Block Legislation and Judicial Meddling
Fri Mar 25, 2005 at 03:04:30 PM PDT
An absurd tragicomedy in three parts.
Part I:
Forget the filibuster, the US-allied Ecuadoran government has found a novel method to block unwanted legislation.
The pro-government Congress in Ecuador saw a bloc of lawmakers switch to the opposition giving it a majority. The congress president immediately closed the session and ordered the lawmakers home to prevent unwanted legislation.
However, the opposition lawmakers refused to leave.
So the electricity was cut off.
They still refused to leave.
So police gassed the congressional chambers.
Ukraine: Orange Scarves and Brown Shirts
Sun Jan 02, 2005 at 02:50:49 PM PDT
With the election over, the
AP finds it safe to report that the muscle behind the Orange Revolution wears Brown Shirts.
Among the orange ribbons, rabbit ears and dyed hair of the Ukrainian students who have become the happy face of the Orange Revolution, a darker color has become more prominent: the green camouflage uniforms of a far-right nationalist group...known by its Ukrainian acronym UNA-UNSO
[It claims] it has provided much of the muscle behind the weeks of protests in support of opposition candidate Viktor Yushchenko...[and] provided men to serve in Yushchenko's personal security detail.
The group maintains training camps in western Ukraine's Carpathian mountains where its members practice such guerrilla warfare skills as hand-to-hand combat and survival. Its Web site includes such items as a statement of solidarity with Chile's ex-dictator Gen. Augusto Pinochet and a report about a treaty of "friendship and cooperation" with representatives of German neo-Nazis.

Plagiarism: AP Baghdad Reporter Reid
Sat Nov 20, 2004 at 02:08:31 PM PDT
J'accuse Robert H. Reid, AP Baghdad correspondent, of plagiarism for using almost verbatim a paragraph by Rahul Mahajan written on April 15, 2004. This piece appeared in the Washington Post, Philly Inquirer, etc.
While not overtly political, it attests to the inferior and slothful quality of mainstream western reporting emanating from "free" Iraq.

Lancaster County Exit Poll by New Era
Fri Nov 12, 2004 at 02:41:48 PM PDT
Critical is understanding how the exit polls from the news consortium differed from those by independent outfits.
This independent exit poll from the Lancaster New Era newspaper appeared at 1 pm EST election day and applies to Lancaster County PA, the heart of the generally conservative Pennsylvania Deutsch region.
I post this Lancaster New Era exit poll here solely to preserve the evidence.

SD: Racist Thune Flyer
Thu Nov 04, 2004 at 03:24:00 PM PDT
A flyer with a picture of prairie dogs on the front with the words ''The dogs are lining up to vote for Tom Daschle,'' appeared in many western South Dakota mail boxes...
The flyer wouldn't have been so offensive had it used the words prairie dog instead of just dog. Also inside the flyer the sentence: ''No wonder the varmints are heading to the polls to vote for him.''
The problem for Indian country originated decades ago when many stores in the state displayed signs that said, ''No Dogs or Indians allowed.''
